This is how sampling beer can help hundreds of people in Eden Prairie:
You buy a ticket to 2017 Prairie Brewfest, which about 600 of you did on Saturday, Sept. 9. You sample craft beer and other beverages from 20 vendors, enjoy live music, and purchase a bratwurst or slice of pizza.
In doing so, you help hundreds of your neighbors-in-need because Brewfest supports the programs and operation of the 36-year-old Eden Prairie Community Foundation. The Foundation, in turn, fills unmet community needs through grants, fiscal sponsorship to others’ big projects, and the leadership and collaboration programs that make Eden Prairie better.
For example, the Foundation’s Youth Initiative includes financial support that helps PROP provide after-school activity scholarships to about 90 youngsters per year, helping them afford swimming lessons, driver’s education, summer camp, and more.
This year’s Foundation grants program provides financial support to more than a half-dozen programs, including food delivery to home-bound senior citizens and technology needs at a local women’s shelter.
And, its fiscal sponsorship program provides a way for other organizations to complete big projects like the Eden Prairie Veterans Memorial and Eden Prairie Miracle Field.
These things might not happen without an Eden Prairie Community Foundation.
So, you can see that you can have your beer and help others, too. Thank you, Eden Prairie, for supporting Prairie Brewfest and the Foundation overall. By doing so, you help others in need.
