What Eden Prairie Community Foundation board members contribute is … a lot!

The Foundation is just a few days into its 2018-19 fiscal year, which started July 1, and that means new officers and several new members of the board of directors.

You can meet all 17 members of our volunteer board elsewhere on this website, but briefly we welcome a new chair, PG Narayanan, who will be supported by officers Ron Case, vice chair; Kathy Swart, treasurer; Nancy Holden, secretary, and Joan Grootwassink, past chair.

We’re also pleased to announce four new board members:

  • Pastor Rod Anderson, a longtime Eden Prairie minister who has served on the board twice before;
  • Alfonso Chicre, a national sales manager for an international manufacturer of home appliances;
  • Jeff Jiang, an entrepreneur in international educational exchanges and a business consultant for international transactions; and
  • Tina Palmer, the senior philanthropy officer for Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina.

Patricia Magnuson and Jeanne Zetah have reached the ends of their respective terms, and have stepped off the board after years of outstanding leadership.

You might think it’s all about meetings and fundraising for Foundation board members, but it’s not.

Traditionally, nonprofit board members are first and foremost responsible for guiding the organization through its strategic planning, complying with its bylaws and other governing documents, overseeing its executive director, and making sure the organization is careful with donors’ money.

But in addition, these community leaders through their service on the board and also standing committees contribute expertise that moves the Foundation forward. The organization’s current 17 members have a broad range of knowledge that helps. There are attorneys, business people, accountants, nonprofit executives, city and school officials, fundraising experts, and much more. (You can read our board members’ backgrounds here.)

Beyond bringing this expertise to the Foundation, board members make a financial contribution to the organization, support its fundraising and development efforts, and represent the Foundation at a wide range of EPCF and community events.
