Foundation Donors Help Those in Need with Fresh Food Options

Meals on Wheels and PROP were awarded community-impact grant support this past year as they both demonstrated a critical need in Eden Prairie. The Eden Prairie Community Foundation is dedicated to finding and fulfilling the greatest needs in the community. Since 1981, donors have entrusted the Foundation to make the most impact with their gifts.

Through Foundation support, PROP expanded its Fresh Choice Market offerings by purchasing cooler and freezer space. Their new Fresh Choice Market Initiative provides healthier, more nutritious food offerings to clients.

PROP serves around 1,100 families each year with around 250 pantry visits weekly. It provides food to those in crisis, including low-income residents of Eden Prairie. PROP’s mission is to help provide stability and self-sufficiency to their clients which includes not just food but also support through case workers for child-care costs, unemployment, building language skills, and education/training.

Meals on Wheels was also awarded support in expanding their food offerings with fresh items. With this grant, fresh and nutritious options were added to their meals with items purchased from local food growers. Meals on Wheels provides an affordable meal delivery service to vulnerable adults including the elderly, disabled and those recovering after surgery. They provide home-delivered meals to 30 residents in Eden Prairie and over 70 in Bloomington.

With their separate programs, Meals on Wheels and PROP are making sure that people in need have access to healthy, nutritious food regardless of their income or mobility.

Each year the Foundation accepts grant proposals for community impact grants. For 2019 grants, the Foundation is accepting proposals from Nov. 1 to Dec. 22, 2018. Each of the proposals will be carefully considered by the Grant Committee for the size of the potential impact as well as how well it fills an unmet need in the community.

In a typical year the Foundation is able to fund only about half of the grant applications it receives, though nearly all of the proposed grant projects would fill needs in the community. That’s why your financial support of the Foundation is so important.

If you are considering a gift to the Eden Prairie Community Foundation, now is the time, as unrestricted donations to the Foundation have the chance to be doubled. The Foundation’s leadership and donor-advised fund holders have generously provided a match for the first $10,000 raised between now and Jan. 1, 2019. To donate, visit the Foundation’s online “Donate” page.

Thank you to all of our donors for supporting the Foundation’s work in Eden Prairie. We look forward to seeing the impact our next round of grantees will have in strengthening the Eden Prairie community. Your support can change lives.
