The PROP Shop leveraged volunteer help and a 2019 Eden Prairie Community Foundation grant to purchase 14 ready-to-assemble bedroom dressers and distribute them to families-in-need.
It was one of 14 grants the Foundation awarded this year as part of its annual grant cycle, with help from donors, fund holders, and corporate partners.
For Foundation officials, The PROP Shop grant request stood out because the Eden Prairie nonprofit supplies basic needs to families who need a helping hand. Not just furniture, but beds, clothing, household supplies, and more. The Foundation strives to get donor dollars to where they are needed most, and The PROP Shop had a backlog of requests for new dressers.
Dressers are essential organizing tools in most households, according to The PROP Shop, especially in homes with limited closet space.
Dollars were stretched by using the $1,050 grant to purchase dresser kits at IKEA and using three volunteer groups to assemble them: Eaton Corp. employees, the Young Men’s Service League, and elders from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
All told, The PROP Shop was able to distribute 20 dressers in July and August alone.
The PROP Shop provides a valuable service to Eden Prairie, and the Foundation is proud to support them. For more information about The PROP Shop, go to www.propshopep.org.
