COVID-19 Fund addresses that extra layer of hurt in EP

While it’s heartbreaking to see Eden Prairie life, as we’ve come to know it, turned upside down by the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s an extra and often unnoticed layer of hurt beyond social distancing, closed businesses, and distance learning.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed life in Eden Prairie.

This extra layer of hurt is being experienced by Eden Prairie residents who are in need of food, counseling, stable housing, and other social services – and in fact may have needed these critical services before we learned there was a coronavirus.

It’s because we have neighbors in need of essential help that the Foundation started the COVID-19 Response Fund on March 16. This special fund will issue grants to help nonprofits provide important services at a difficult time, uninterrupted, even as these Eden Prairie organizations are making MacGyver-like improvisations to their operations.

The Foundation is in a unique position to help. Its longstanding role to fill unmet community needs happens because it has an experienced and knowledgeable board of directors, Grants Committee, and staff who know where dollars are needed most.

Its annual grant program is an example of that, having injected $2 million into the community so nonprofit partners can better serve those who are experiencing poverty, homelessness, abuse, disability, and more.

Thankfully, that’s built donor trust. The COVID-19 Response Fund is proof: Dozens of individuals, families, and organizations have donated. About $11,000 has come from the Foundation’s own philanthropic fund holders – families that hold donor-advised funds at EPCF. Another $3,000 has come from the Eden Prairie Noon Rotary Club and its own Eden Prairie Rotary Foundation.

Several quick-response grants from the COVID-19 Response Fund are being issued this week; stay tuned for details.

This fund will continue operating through the pandemic and recovery period. Your financial support is critical. You can make a tax-deductible donation on this website or send a check to: Eden Prairie Community Foundation, COVID-19 Response Fund, 8080 Mitchell Road, Eden Prairie, MN 55344.

We’re together while apart, Eden Prairie. Because we won’t forget about our neighbors-in-need.
