What does it look like when a community pulls together?
It looks a lot like Eden Prairie at this very moment: a community finding new ways to educate students, support local businesses including restaurants, and help first responders with homemade face masks and gestures of encouragement
For those of us at the Eden Prairie Community Foundation, it means providing emergency funding to local nonprofits so that residents can get basic social services – including food assistance – at a difficult time. It’s why in mid-March we created the COVID-19 Response Fund, which has already raised $50,000 and spun off three grants funding services in the areas of food and grief counseling.
Even as we encourage people to continue to support the COVID-19 Response Fund, the Foundation is participating in a statewide fundraising campaign May 1-8 known as #GiveAtHomeMN. The focus of this campaign is to raise dollars that keep the Foundation operating, even as major funding sources like our annual EP Gives event have been postponed because of the pandemic.
While our No. 1 priority remains the COVID-19 Response Fund to support Eden Prairie neighbors in need, we are using the #GiveAtHomeMN campaign to spotlight the importance of charitable giving that keeps our nonprofits – all nonprofits – staffed and operating at a difficult time. What many organizations need most is an infusion of resources to keep operations going.
We’ll miss gathering with you on May 2, when our EP Gives fundraising event was to be held, because as much as anything that event is a celebration of a year’s worth of philanthropy and recognition for our 2020 grantees: 21 organizations that, with the Foundation’s funding help, are filling critical needs in Eden Prairie.
Your #GiveAtHomeMN donation will help keep the Foundation’s programs up and running until we can all gather again. To support the Foundation’s operation and programming, donate on the Foundation website or its page at GiveMN.org, the organization that is leading the statewide call-to-action.
If you prefer to donate to the COVID-19 Response Fund, then please also help spread the word about our operational needs and the #GiveAtHomeMN campaign.
We know that many of you are struggling in the area of employment and income. You should know that your community is pulling for you.
