Volunteer. It’s Good for Eden Prairie, and It’s Good for You!
One of the ways you can give back to Eden Prairie is to pledge and commit volunteer community service for a cause you care about. When you give back time, talent, and energy to your community, you are helping to:
- Solve problems
- Strengthen Eden Prairie
- Improve others’ lives
- Connect to neighbors
- Transform your own life
That’s right, volunteer community service not only helps others, it helps you! There’s a growing body of research that indicates volunteering provides individual health benefits in addition to social ones, according to the Corporation for National & Community Service. They cite research that indicates people who volunteer have lower mortality rates, greater functional ability, and lower rates of depression later in life than those who do not volunteer.
How to Get Started
Among our nonprofit partners that rely on help from volunteers is PROP and The PROP Shop. (Yes, those are actually two separate and important nonprofits serving Eden Prairie.) We can provide other examples of nonprofits needing volunteers; contact Foundation Executive Director Greg Leeper at [email protected] for more ideas. Or sign up for the Eden Prairie Community Foundation’s e-mail newsletter, which occasionally lists volunteer opportunities and events being held by our nonprofit partners.
Better yet, download this list of area organizations that outlined their volunteer opportunities in fall 2021:
